What are Carotenoids?
Lutein is a type of carotenoid. Carotenoids are pigments found in nature. They contain powerful anti-oxidant properties and are needed throughout the various parts of the body. Lutein accumulates in human blood, breast milk, organs, and tissue. There are especially high concentrations of lutein found in central and macular areas of the retina in the back of the eyes.
What are the Benefits of Carotenoids?
Dr. Frederick Khachik of Kemin Human Nutrition and Health began studying the effects of carotenoids since 1983 when he was working for the Department of Agriculture. In 1992, he and two of his colleagues conducted the first nutritional supplement test on humans using lutein. Dr. Khachik’s research has found that lutein assists in the daily functions of our skin due to lutein’s antioxidative properties. It has also been discovered that lutein works as a filter that absorbs sunlight and blue light and prevents the risk of damage posed by light.
In 2009, Dr. Elizabeth Johnson of Tufts University reported a study’s results showing that consuming lutein and DHA can improve the eye’s antioxidative function and the brain’s cognitive function.
“I used to have headaches every week and muscle tension after spending hours using the computer. Then in 2014, I started taking Super Lutein and I realized that I could sit at the computer without experiencing headaches!” – Wally Otsuji, Hawaii Member
Aside from the ones listed above, findings have also shown carotenoids such as lutein and zeaxanthin also aid in the following bodily functions: improves visual performance, helps prevent Age-related Macular Degeneration, protects and maintains the skin’s moisture and elasticity, protects the skin from blue light, helps the brain with faster reaction rates and faster visual processing speeds.
However, Dr. Khachik’s studies also find that humans cannot create lutein within the body. Since the body cannot replenish our supply within our bodies, we have to do so by consuming food high in these nutrients and taking dietary supplements.
Why Super Lutein?
With the help of Dr. Khachik, Naturally Plus has been able to create a special blend of five phytonutrients (lutein, lycopene, zeaxanthin, alpha- and beta-carotene) plus DHA/EPA. In total, Super Lutein has twelve active nutrients that support your diet by supplementing the body’s building blocks and providing antioxidants.
“Maintaining wellness – mind and my family’s – has always been the most important thing to me. I started with Super Lutein, and then my body’s natural processes became easier – my hair grows better, my nails don’t chip anymore, my lower back soreness is gone, and my sinuses are clearer.” – Ellen Yang, San Diego Member
There are many lutein and eye health supplements in the market. However, Super Lutein is the only one with the special proprietary blend made with FloraGlo, a crystallized, highly pure lutein.
It is the most clinically researched lutein worldwide and the brand most trusted by doctors for eye health in the United States.*
